Twin wheels and accessible sail controls provide easy handling and an engaging sailing experience.

DESIGNERS COMMENTS
Designed by Jason Ker and Design Unlimited.
The excellent performance and sleek lines borrow heavily from the racing yacht heritage and when combined with the key elements of the Southerly, creates a yacht that is worlds away from most production cruisers. Without compromise to its cruising purpose, the yacht is beautifully stylish and exudes elegance and simplicity. The backbone of the yachts structure is the cast-iron grounding plate which connects with a spider’s web of frames and longitudinal girders. The engineering of the hull, deck and supporting structure allow for excellent sailing performance without compromising, the yachts ability to cope with the different environments of the seas. The highly developed Swing Keel system provides a variable draught of 10'10'' (3.3m) - 2'8'' (0.80m) for total freedom to sail shallow waters. The semi-balanced twin rudders give instantly responsive steering and precise directional stability. The powerful rig is fully tamed with modern reefing and furling systems, enabling the yacht to keep sailing fast and efficiently in all sailing conditions. The self-tacking furling jib means the yacht can be easily sailed by just two people, with minimal effort. The carbon mast is a two spreader rig with swept back spreaders to provide increased stiffness and strength, with a much lighter weight for considerable benefits to stability and performance. A hydraulic adjustable backstay allows control of the forestay tension for enthusiastic sailors who want to get that extra bit of upwind performance. The bowsprit allows short-handed setting of the asymmetric spinnaker and by projecting the sail further forwards, balance is greatly enhanced while reaching, allowing the yacht to effortlessly maintain large mileages at high speeds. The deck layout is designed for the ergonomic efficiency required by the enthusiastic sailor with an excellent twin wheeled helming position and sail controls that are easily reached. Once you step inside, you enter a light and airy interior. The well-planned layout with three cabin accommodation is designed for total comfort and luxury. The pilothouse windows in the raised coachroof give an instant feeling of space. Partially reflective tinted glass gives privacy whilst also deflecting the heat from the sun’s rays. Opening hatches provide cross ventilation for warm weather. The large raised saloon seating area provides a social point for owners and guests, permitting comfortable dining whilst at anchor or moored, and taking full advantage of the all-round views. The chart table is to port in a raised position for good visibility and easy communication with the cockpit. The linear galley is well equipped and situated at a lower level. Corian type work surfaces, a fully gimballed oven with three burners and grill, twin stainless steel sinks, a front-loading, stainless-steel fridge, top loading freezer and plenty of stowage provides excellent facilities for entertaining in style. The master cabin is supremely spacious with a centreline double berth, good headroom, plenty of natural light and ventilation, with ample shelving and hanging lockers. Ensuite facilities include a separate shower. There are two double cabins aft, both with long berths, good headroom, natural light, ventilation and ample storage. A toilet compartment serves these cabins and is also ideally located as a day heads, close to the companionway.

The keel box is an integral part of the hull lay-up and sandwich construction stiffening runs the entire length of the hull topsides. All main bulkheads are bonded into the hull at main lay-up stage along with a stiffening grillage of transverse frames and longitudinal stringers. The engine bearers are also an integral part of the hull structure.
